Don't Hear It...

...Remember It!

Remember... posters of Raquel Welch, platforms shoes, chopper bikes and chlorine bombs - circa 1976? If you loved Uriah Heep, Budgie, Led Zepp (Houses of the Holy) and Deep Purple (who doesn't). Then you'll love "Don't Hear It... Fear It!" by Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell.

This British band brings back the sounds of the prog rock / early metal of the 70's, making the sounds of that era accessible to an even wider audience with modern references to stoner metal and great guitar riffs and powerfully muted lyrics.

I particularly dig "Red Admiral, Black Sunrise" with its fuzz, groove and rolling tempo that gathers momentum all the way through. All tracks contribute to a wonderfully crafted album, avoiding any hint of monotony with the heaviness and and pace of this kind of rock.

Love to see them live - come to Jo'burg guys!

Being metal in South Africa sucks.

I think I can make it suck a little less. Hence this blog.

I'll be looking out for local acts, turning over stones and making connections and seeing what I can discover, then I'll let you know what I've found. While discovering I'll also give you what I'm listening to and what I think is good, even if not SA - you might not like it, but at least it will be noisy and hard!

So give me a shout here or on last.fm and let me know what you think or if you've found something yourself. Maybe we can all make it suck less.
